Has anyone noticed that so many people have their birthday in March? I have. So what’s Emily “Electrash” Huggins been doing about that then? Well, my lovelies, I’ve been making Birthday cards! Above is a scan of one I made for Mr Ingram over at http://keystothekingdom.wordpress.com and my goodness, he loved it! In fact, he said it was the nicest card he’d ever been given, which was very sweet of him indeed.

Beautiful Dirty Rich

lady-gaga-electrashdIt has been a while since my last post, hasn’t it? Well that’s because my laptop broke last month and I had to get a new one. But look what I did! It’s Lady Gaga looking super quirky. Magazine and acetate? Oh, how did you guess?
So, other things that have happened since my last post: 1) New year. It’s the year 2009 now, incase you lived inside a cave on a desert island and hadn’t already realised…2) I’m in another band now, we’re kind of shoegaze (according to Oliver Ingram) and we’re called Kaleidoskop. We have a couple of songs on our Myspace and we also have a Youtube channel where you can find some amusing videos of us being silly at band practice…3) I’m on Twitter now, so stalk me and let me know what you’ve been up to.

Bye for now ♥

Once Upon A Time I Learned To Smile

December 28, 2008 - Leave a Response

scan0013Back in the 1980s, my Dad used to be the bassist in a band called Pride and Prejudice with his best mate, another one of their friends and my Uncle. A few months ago, he came across some old tapes and original copies of their cassette and poster artwork. He then took the tapes to a local studio to restore the sound and change the format. The man in the studio asked my dad if Pride and Prejudice ever got signed, to which my dad replied “No”. The guy said he would’ve signed them if they were still around today. Thing is, if they were around bit later, maybe they would’ve been signed. A question of time?

So my dad thought it would be a nice idea to make copies of the CD for the other band members. He asked me to design some cover art and give the album a name. I was happy to do this as I’m a bit of a Pride and Prejudice fan, even though they were my Dad’s band and it seems uncool to appreciate his music.

The artwork (right) is true to the original poster designs with a little bit of an Electrash edge. I scanned the original gig posters and cut them into trianges, in the style of some of the cassette covers.

I am trouble and I am troubled too

scan0003On fire today. Pretty rare for me as I’ve been getting rather lazy with Electrash for the past couple of months. This is my second blog post of the day. Are you impressed?

No this one isn’t serious and business related like my last post was. It’s Patrick Wolf. You like it? Look really carefully and you’ll see a little white feather in his hair. The Gold star didn’t turn out as shiny as I would’ve liked, but I’m still really pleased with this piece.

I’m going to have to think of who’s going to get Electrash’d next. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to comment.

Time for a change, time for a Chance

scan0002“Ok Emily, what the hell is this?”

This is my friend is an idea. As part of marketing for a new online radio station called Chance I’ve been asked to come up with some ideas for posters. My first ideas were boring, so I decided it was time Chance radio got Electrash’d. Young. Creative. Personal. The MD was impressed. Newspaper saves everything.

Also, check out Oliver Ingram’s blog. He does some awesome photographic art. His Paris photos are my favourites.

“Small, shiny, round pieces of wearable art”

November 7, 2008 - Leave a Response

scan0001Before I explain the meaning of this insanity (pictured left), there are two things that’ve happened since my last post:
1. I ordered a badge maker on Amazon, along with a book called Badge Button Pin by Gavin Lucas. This was because I will need to use it in my final idea for Art. As soon as I got it, I said to myself “Ok, I’ll only make one tester badge which is relevant to my art”. Famous last words. I got too inspired and carried away that ended up making quite a few badges, including a couple for mine and Danny’s little duo The Stellarads, which I will get on to now…
2. The Stellarads are taking part in Misbourne’s Battle of the Bands in just over 2 weeks time. After making the first Stellarads badge, someone cleverly suggested “Why don’t you make them for all of your friends who are planning on going to battle of the bands to support The Stellarads?” There goes the one badge relevant to work idea…straight out the window.

Anyway, I made two designs of badges: the Emily badge and the Danny badge. See if you can guess which is which. It’s hard to tell what I used to make them, they’re actually magazine collage. Excuse the poor quality, I had to scan the actual completed badges because my camera ran out of battery and we have no more AAs.

Oh my goodness! I almost missed updating for the entire month, so here’s my post for October. I did this little collage for The Stellarads’ myspace page. What is it? Well..I’ll let you decide that one for yourselves. What do you see it as?

Danny and I recently recorded a cover of Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues to put up onto the myspace. Feel free to have a listen: http://www.myspace.com/thestellarads

Another picture of Ladyhawke, you say? The photograph this was drawn from was just too good not to be Electrash’d.
So what damage has been done this time? The eiffel tower, torn leopard spots, and neon orange poster paint…which, by the way, does not work on scanned acetate. Don’t try it. You don’t even need to bother trying it, I’ve made that mistake for you already. Multiple wrongs do not make a right. Emily Huggins makes mistakes so you don’t have to.

Hello again. I believe it’s the second time this week. I do really love you, don’t I?

I have a habit of flipping through magazines, seraching for something to do with a certain topic, cutting out loads of unrelated pictures of things I like and creating something different out of them. It’s recently become my biggest distraction to what I should be doing.

Well here’s one of my latest distractions. It’s mainly based around the picture of the late Audrey Hepburn. You might not have realised this but I’m a big fan of hers.

I must get ready to go out now. My social life calls…

Hello there. It’s been a while since my last post hasn’t it?

Now I know it’s not music related like the rest of my pieces so far, but I thought I’d show you my acrylic on acetate glass Coca-Cola bottle that’s just been lying around on my coffee table for a while now. It seemed a bit of a waste not to show you it. I think it looks quite cool anyway. I think cola in glass bottles is so much nicer than cans or anything else. I decided to make a new category called Iconic Shizz for all of my art based on some iconic ‘shizz’.

I sort of feel guilty that there isn’t any meaning or thought behind this piece. It’s just a study of a glass Coca-Cola bottle that I decided to do one day. Exactly what it says on the tin bottle, to be perfectly honest.

I also apologise for lack of new art. “Oh, what happened Emily?” 6th form, that’s what. It’s really great, hard work though. I went into real panic mode about the whole thing yesterday though. It’s come as a shock to me after a long summer though.
